Likes:
› Parties: Maya will never, EVER, turn down the opportunity to party. Whether it'd be a company Christmas party, someone's birthday, or just a few drinks on a Saturday night. She just likes to have fun and would really want everyone else to enjoy life as well.
› Tequila: Because it's the best damn drink out there, obviously. She's very fond of tequila, though she won't pass up any other type of alcohol if offered. That would just be rude.
› Swimming: Not only is it a really great excuse to get into a bikini, the water is also very calming. She finds herself at peace whenever she's in a large pool of water.
› Learning: She might look like nothing more than a party girl, since she certainly acts like that, but Maya is a bright girl. When she was in school, she always received high marks and was even offered a scholarship when she graduated. She had to turn it down, for personal reasons, which she's not willing to disclose...
› Spicy Food: In true Latin spirit, Maya is a big fan of anything spicy. Her favorite snack is watermelon with Tajin generously sprinkled over it.
› Freedom: Maya's parents were over protective all her life. She needed a way out and when she moved out of their home, she got the freedom she always wanted. She absolutely loves being able to do what she wants, whenever she wants.
Dislikes:
› Drugs: Listen, Maya is always up for a good time, but there are other ways to have fun. She doesn't like when people assume that she's willing to do drugs just because she likes to party.
› Failing: She dedicates herself to anything she's doing and she will not take failure as an outcome. She will do anything in her power to succeed and not let herself, and the people around her, down.
› Racists: One of the worst feelings anyone could ever have is being judged because you're of a certain ethnicity. It's happened more than once to Maya and though she tries to brush it off and act tough, it hurts every time.
› Cheaters: Whether it'd be at school, work, or in a relationship. If anyone ever cheats on her, they better pray that she doesn't get wind of it, because they will pay.
› Early mornings: Let's just say that Maya and mornings do not mix, ever. She's grumpy almost every morning. If she could sleep in until noon, she probably would. Alas, she makes the personal sacrifice and works a lot of morning shifts.
› Loneliness: She won't admit it, but she is lonely a lot of the time, especially at home. She won't ever let it show though, and as far as anyone can see, she is happy as anyone else.
Quirks:
› Maya tends to softly bite her lower lip when she's concentrating on something. She doesn't notice it when she's doing it, but she gets rather embarrassed if someone else points it out to her.
› She stands on her tip toes a lot. She's only 5 feet and 1 inch tall, so it's a thing she's done since she was young. Whenever she hugs someone, she has to wrap her arms around their neck and she is never able to reach without being on the tips of her toes.
Fears:
› She's always afraid that one day her parents will show up at the door of her apartment and drag her back home with them.
› Scary stories, ugh, scary stories! They are the worst. She becomes paranoid for days, after people talk about scary stuff. La Llorona is maybe her biggest fear, her parents used to tell her about it when she was little, telling her that La Llorona would come for her at night if she didn't behave.
Personality:
Maya can be the sweetest girl you ever meet, but you better be careful with what you say to her, because certain things make her tick. She absolutely hates when costumers speak Spanish to her, as if she doesn't understand English at all. Even so, she tries to be polite to everyone she works with, though she can't stand certain people. Not that she would ever say or do anything that would compromise her job, she's worked way too hard to get it.
When she's drinking, which is every weekend (but not on Sundays), she can get loud. She can handle her alcohol, but there is a line she shouldn't cross, which she has in the past. When that line is crossed, there's no telling what this girl will do. She's only been legally able to drink for a few months, but there have been some crazy nights with some of her coworkers. Another thing to keep in mind when drinking with her is that she becomes very affectionate. However, that doesn't mean she'll sleep with anyone. She's fine with kissing, hugging, making out and all that jazz, but likes her personal space very much. In fact, she comes from a very strict, Catholic family and there's no way she's going to be getting down and dirty with anyone. Then again, things do tend to happen in the heat of the moment, and she's a very passionate girl.
It takes some time to get to know Maya, on a personal level. She is very focused during work, almost to the point where she doesn't speak to her coworkers while on the clock. And sometimes she feels left out of a lot of things. It's almost always her fault, for distancing herself, but she doesn't know how to change that. She was raised to always do her best at work and school, so her family could have a comfortable household. At the time she first applied and got the job, she had just moved to town and was without her family's support for the first time in her life. She had told them that she wanted to move across the country to attend her dream University, be free, but that wasn't how things worked in her family. If she wanted to move out, she'd have to have a ring on her finger and a husband to support her. Of course, Maya is young, she wasn't willing to give up her whole life and marry someone, just to get out of her parents' grip. So one night she decided to just leave. All she left was a note, telling them that she wouldn't be back for a long time. Maya is now absolutely sure that even if she did return, her parents wouldn't want anything to do with her. She, herself, has some resentment toward them, since they are the reason she wouldn't be able to accept the scholarship that was offered to her. She'll put on a brave front and will try to be as happy as possible.
♕ DIDN'T MAKE SENSE NOT TO LIVE FOR FUN ♕
Roleplay Sample:Mornings were evil. No exceptions! Maya Hidalgo was not a morning person, she had never been, and now as an adult, she was worse than ever. The morning started at 6 am, waaaay too early, I know. Maya's alarm went off, one, two, three times. She knew if she pressed the snooze button one more time, she'd be late to work. With a loud groan, she dragged herself out of bed. She made her way to the shower, where she stood under the water for almost twenty minutes, trying to wake herself up. Getting ready for work took her about forty five minutes, she needed to at least try to look presentable. Her lips formed a smile when she looked in the mirror, satisfied at her appearance. That's when her eyes traveled over to the alarm clock sitting on her bedside table.
It was five past seven, her shift started in less than thirty minutes. That's when she started to panic. She quickly tried to gather her belongings, shoving them all into her purse. And of course, when she went looking for her keys, they were nowhere to be found. Her heart was beating fast now, she did not want to be late. She wasted five minutes looking for them, finally finding them on her kitchen counter. She dashed out the door, into her car.
The gas meter was pointed at the first line, which meant that she needed to get some gas on this baby. However, she made the decision to do that after work. Something in the back of her mind knew that she would forget about it later. Maya's foot stepped on the gas pedal, but she was careful to never go up more than five past the speed limit. It seemed to be her lucky day (not), she kept hitting all the red lights.
"Oh, shit," she whispered to herself, glancing at the clock. When the light turned green, she didn't waste any time. Her eyes followed the Starbucks as she moved past it, some part of her dying a little. No coffee today, apparently. She'd make it through work somehow.
With three minutes to spare, Maya arrived at the market. Jumping out of the car, she ran across the parking lot, ignoring one of her coworkers as they called out to her. The side door of the building was wide open, left that way for the produce delivery guy. Maya zig zagged her way through the back of the store, locating the machine that would let her clock in. Anyone could tell she was flustered, the corner of her lips almost turned down. She hit the clock in button, less than five seconds after seven thirty.
"Good morning, Maya."
Maya heard the familiar voice of a fellow coworker right behind her. She took a silent, deep breath. The frown on her lips turned around, forming a sweet smile before she turned around to greet the person there, like there was no worry in the world.
