Matthew felt like flying.
The Canadian bent his knees slightly, decreasing the air resistance and effectively speeding up his pace to something startlingly quick if the trees whipping by him were a judge. Snow kicked up behind him ever so slightly and Matthew allowed a gleeful smirk to cross his face as he passed several other boarders carving down the mountain. The wind whipped around his face, and for a dangerous moment he closed his eyes and pretended he was soaring over a frosty mountain. The jagged peaks jutting out into the skyline and snow sprinkling ever so sparingly into his hair and down to the icy slopes below made him feel like he was perfectly at home. Solitude was how he thrived.
When the Canadian opened his eyes only a second later he had to swerve lest he wanted to run over an unsuspecting skier. He shifted his weight to the left carving a wide arc around the probable tourist, and then pushing off the ground to jump over a branch that had somehow made it’s way on to the hills and in his way. Near the end there was a rather daring jump, and Matthew had been practicing all day to reach it. This time, he would do it, and as the base of the mountain neared closer and closer he steeled himself for what was about to come.
The ground lifted up under him and Matthew pushed off his board as he became completely airborne and his chest filling with an almost euphoric feeling. He pushed himself forward completing a front flip and then reached his right hand through his folded legs to grab the board and landed the jump with a classic Canadian Bacon only losing his balance ever so slightly to cause a bit of a stumble in the end. It wasn’t spectacular, but for his first jump on that ramp, Matthew felt pretty awesome.
As he lost speed the normally meek man began wading to slow down even further. The adrenaline was still running through him, and his hands trembled ever so slightly with the wide eyed and shining expression plastered on his face. He loved it, being in the line of danger like that, if only to knock him out of the boring daily routine of school and work. It scared him, but Matthew didn’t love it any less, in fact he was ready to try it again.
That however, could wait. He was pretty sure his stomach was about to gnaw away at all his insides if he didn’t get something in it soon. Matthew had been riding around pretty much all day, and apparently his stomach wasn’t too happy about it. There was a little café closer to the skiing section of the resort he could show up in there, get a quick bit to eat with what little money he had and hit the slopes again. It would be quick and easy.
Unless of course, it was rush hour…
Matthew sighed as he stood in line to order his mocha, and strawberry Danish, not peeved at the situation as much as he was scolding himself for waiting so long to eat. Of course the café was packed; all the tables had been filled. A couple tables here and there only had one occupant, he, feeling a little more adventurous than usual after his recent accomplishments, would probably sit with one of them. One man in particular with long blonde hair and his back to him looked like a nice choice. The table was situated by a window, where you could see the warm grey snow clouds and sparkling white snow laid out against the landscape. So at least if he wasn’t too keen on talking to him Matthew could gaze out the window while his drink and pastry arrived.
The order went by rather quickly, ready in twenty minutes they said, and he weaved his way through the people with his snowboard in one hand over to the lonely booth next to the window. He awkwardly set his board against the back of the booth and tried to make eye contact with him.
“Is it okay if I sit here?” He pulled a gloved hand up to the back of his neck. “I mean, there’s not anywhere else to sit, and…” He paused debating if he really should say it for a moment. “You look like you could use some company.”
He offered another awkwardly soft smile.
[[ooc: I'm going to say Matthew's about sixteen since this is a past thread. :3 ]]
