Likes:
- Flowers – Lili loves just about every flower, and she researches them often. She loves to learn about them, lilies especially. They are, after all, the flowers she was named after. Flowers somehow seem to always make their way into her hobbies, and if she isn't arranging flowers into bouquets or other forms of decoration, she's embroidering their designs into various clothes.
- Smell of Fresh Pastries – Because honestly, who doesn’t? Fresh bread and pastries are a delight for her, and when passing by bakeries on the street she can never resist buying something for herself and her brother.
- Embroidery – An art she learned from her mother. Embroidery is a relaxing past-time for Lili, which she mostly does in quiet. This is also a time of remembrance for her, as she quietly recalls her parents. If it's a particularly quiet or slow day and she happens to actually have nothing to do, she can be found huddled up somewhere working on one of many projects.
- Reading – Lili is opposite Vash in her love of fairy tales and fantasy. They are her favorite genre of book, and some stories she’ll read over and over. Although given little evidence to prove it, Lili is convinced, perhaps naively, there is some kind of magic in the world and if people believe hard enough they will see it. She’s merely concluded she doesn’t believe as much as she could. Her favorite fairy tale is Rapunzel.
- Animals – There are a few exceptions to her general love of animals, such as rats or spiders or certain other creepy-crawlies (This girl even likes snakes!) When Lili was younger, she'd often surprise (and anger) her parents by bringing home wild animals she found in the forest or fields. In her defense, many of them were injured and she couldn't leave an animal to die alone without feeling guilty. Recently she has developed a powerful fondness for gerbils, but she loves pretty much every animal. Please expect her to pet every animal.
- Listening / Stories - Lili never tires of hearing people tell her things about themselves and will listen with all of her attention. This goes double if they're telling her a particularly interesting story, but Lili doesn't pick and choose favorites. People are books, and she has a knack for opening them in such a way that they might divulge what they know or what they are. On the flip-side, she loves telling stories of her own, and can easily talk the ears off of an unprepared audience.
- Smiles - Especially the ones she brings to people's faces. Lili gets a lot of joy out of being able to cheer people up if they feel down, and the smiles she receives for her efforts are wonderful prizes.
- Rain - Rain is a natural lullaby that helps her sleep at night. It gives live to plants and animals, it cleanses the earth, and makes the sky blue. Given such importance and beauty, how can she not appreciate rain for all the good it does? To people who complain about the rain, she will merely nod her head and smile as if she understands their dislike, but she really doesn't.
- Complements - Not in the sense of words one might shower upon her in admiration, for such things only make her blush! No, Lili finds a great deal of enjoyment in things that complete each other, or make things seem perfect. Things that complete each other are poetic like that, and she likes that in nature. This applies especially in colors. Red and green, orange and purple, yellow and blue…
- Piano – When she was much younger and her parents were trying to find a niche of talent to fit her into, Lili was subjected to piano lessons—and she enjoyed it! When things are too quiet around her home Lili will often play the piano, depending on her mood. Otherwise she just plays music from a stereo. She’s not professional by any means, but she enjoys playing and considers it one of her many important hobbies. When she plays music to stave off silence, it's often piano.
Dislikes:
- Rude People – Hate for Lili is often too strong a word. There aren’t many things that make her seethe or boil. Rude people are definitely on the list, though. As someone that tries to be kind to whomever she meets, she can’t stand watching people mistreat others for no reason. She will allow herself to be treated rudely to a certain extent, but she will defend herself if she is pushed to the brink. She will also step in on behalf of another person if it becomes clear they cannot defend themselves.
- Small dogs –They tend to get very yippy, and though Lili doesn't mind a little noise, she finds that small dogs are a little too talkative for her liking. As long as she doesn't have to own them, she's perfectly fine, but please if you have a small dog make sure they are trained and don't bark a lot!
- Weeds - She's a natural florist, does this really need any explanation? It goes without saying that most weeds are vile in a garden environment, and though Lili's love for plant life is hardly matched, such invaders must be removed from her gardens! ... and perhaps gently placed elsewhere. Some weeds she is okay with having around - specifically dandelions - but that's about the only exception she can make for the pests!
- Violence – Though herself being trained in self-defense by Vash, Lili is very hesitant to use anything she’s learned on another person. She dislikes violence and people getting hurt, enough to possibly intervene on a helpless person’s behalf and reprimand the assailant. Unfortunately, her sweet exterior means few people will take her seriously.
- Required Reading – Lili learned a while ago that reading becomes a chore when it’s a requirement and always found it weird (and slightly amusing) that textbooks only became interesting when she read them at her own whim. This never really helped her much in school, because more often than not she would read assigned materials long after her exams on the subject matter were finished.
- Disorder – Lili is a very clean and organized person. She does not like clutter and she does not like messes. She will correct messes as she sees them and tries her best to never make any herself. It seems to particularly irritate her in the store environment when people take items from shelves and then get ride of them in an entirely different part of the store. If one cannot buy an item, why not siply return it back to where one got it?
- Over-sweetened Things - Lili enjoys sweets as much as the next person, but everyone has their limit. In particular, this applies heavily to the things she drinks. She isn't a huge fan of soft drinks, and her teas and coffees are sweetened almost minimally. Conversely, she loves sweet breads, icings, and fillings, and will gratefully indulge in such treats.
- Dissonance - In sound and especially in color. She's very orderly and organized, so to Lili there is a certain way things must be done and arranged in order to be appealing. If the pattern is broken, Lili must set out to fix it. Such things are distracting to her, and many times she will drop her current duty to reorganize or fix whatever is causing the disruption. Not to mention clashing noises are painful to listen to.
- Ticks - Those itty bitty nasty bugs that infest animals and make them sick! Lili hates those little devils with a burning passion, and her dislike of them is surpassed only by her fear of spiders. She's a little paranoid that they might jump off of an animal and onto her, but she has to remind herself that those are fleas, and she doesn't mind those too much.
Quirks:
- She tends to bite her lower lip she feels nervous or worried. This is one of the many reasons she's very easy to read because reactions like this are very specialized to certain emotions she feels. It's easy to gauge how she feels about a subject based on this act alone, because even if she doesn't speak up one can figure out how nervous she really is.
- Perhaps not a quirk, but Lili gets carried away very easily when prompted to talk about flowers or plants. She can be very verbose and has a multitude of books with just about every plant imaginable. If you ask her, she can research and pull out just about any meaningless fact one asks her for, and she does this willingly and without tiring. She tends to realize this herself and apologizes immediately after, after she drops back into her tangents with little effort.
- When Lili absent-mindedly goes through the chores of the day, tending to flowers or animal items and the like, she misplaces the tools she uses. If she has a pencil, she'll stick it behind her ear if she is done and by the time she needs it again, she'll have forgotten where she's put it. To prevent the collection of fur or dirt on her clothes, she has a very old apron that used to belong to her mother. Yes, she loses things in those pockets, too, and they are deceptively big.
- Lili tends to sing to herself in the absence of any noise, especially if she has no music around to break the silence for her. She mostly sings in German, but she has plenty of English songs that she loves as well. If one happens to catch her while she's singing, one will be greeted by a very flustered little lady.
Fears:
- Spiders – Lili is a major arachnophobe. She does not like spiders at all. It does not matter how small it is, whether or not it’s harmless, or what species. If it is a spider, she will be afraid of it, and most likely not go anywhere near the object upon which it is perched. This presents an obstacle if it happens to be sitting on a door.
- Silence – There has to be noise. Lili cannot stand the anxiety that comes with complete silence, because usually if things are too quiet something bad is about to happen. Silence in itself is often paired with negatives, and thus to Lili it has a very undesirable quality to it. Even when quietly working on her embroidery, she will play soft music to relieve the tension. If things are too quiet, she is noticeably jumpy and nervous.
- Mirrors at Night - This is a bit of an odd one, but she can't quite help it. A few years ago she made the mistake of watching a rather frightening supernatural video at night, in which a demonic figure appeared in a mirror to stare back at someone. Ever since watching that, she can't really stand to be around mirrors in dark rooms, just in case that actually happens.
Personality:
- Social – Lili is filled to the brim with endless charisma. She seems to have a near endless amount of things to talk about, and if given the opportunity to she would talk the ears off of anyone she meets. She isn’t all that wary of strangers, though. As someone always willing and eager to make friends, Lili gladly responds to conversations started by people she doesn’t know. Some of her best friends in the present day are people she met on a whim, by simply starting a conversation with them randomly.
- Polite - Lili is always on her best behavior and strives to be as polite as possible. She finds difficulty in her endeavors if countered with someone of particular rudeness, but she'll smile and try to hide her displeasure for the sake of a "customer is always right" ideal. She refuses to let people walk all over her, though, and should the rudeness become malicious she can be expected to defend herself. But don't worry, she'll still do it gracefully!
- Personable - Something about Lili just draws people to her, but she has never quite figured out exactly what. This does not bother her, though. Lili has found that by her most minimal efforts, she can gently pull people out of their shells. This suits her just fine, as one of the things Lili lives for is bringing smiles to people's faces. If someone feels comfortable enough in her presence to try and talk to her about things that bother them, Lili will take it upon herself to aid them as best she can.
- Attentive – Lili’s attention to detail might also go hand-in-hand with her need for orderly surroundings. It also applies to how she handles her hobbies and relationships. The things she loves receive most of her attention, and she offers a lot of it.
- Eloquent – It might take her some push to speak of important things in front of a group, but she conveys her opinions very eloquently. When asked for her take on a particular subject, Lili is more than happy to oblige. She is not stubborn and isn’t prone to blindly clinging to her beliefs but convincing her otherwise isn’t often as easy as one might believe. She needs a certain amount of solid evidence to sway her opinions.
- Emotional – She has a very expressive face and equally expressive eyes. Her emotions are always plain in her face and in her voice. She wears her emotions on her sleeve and isn’t afraid to show someone how she feels about a situation. Unfortunately this also means she has little control over them. She’s easy to make sad and getting her to cry is also a very simple task.
- Trusting – Oh lord, sometimes to a fault. She believes in the inner goodness of people, and will put her faith and trust in the people she is closest to. Unfortunately, this also makes her quite gullible. Lili always tells the truth and expects the truth of others as well. She doesn't expect lies and does not distrust easily. After all, what sort of reason could anyone have to lie to her?
- Naïve – There is a limit to this. Even under her parents, Lili lived a somewhat sheltered life protected from things they believed would corrupt her. She’s not entirely ignorant to the world around her – certainly she’s been exposed to generic things she’d learn in school and a proper sexual education – but she hasn’t experienced much of it on her own. She’s always learning something new, and this suits her just fine. She knows she doesn’t understand everything, and takes new lessons with a degree of excitement.
- Orderly – Lili loves clean surroundings, which seems contradicting given her love of flowers and gardening, but even her gardens have a organized form to them. She strives to be without messes as she does things, or otherwise cleans up her messes as she makes them. The house she shares with Vash is thus very rarely in any sort of disarray – in her case, the yard especially. Neither of them will allow it.
- Honest – Lili can’t lie, so she doesn’t try. Her inner turmoil is betrayed by her eyes and facial expressions no matter how hard she tries to hide it. In the end, she kind of decided that if she trusts everyone else to tell her the truth, than they can trust her also. She’ll hesitate, naturally, but in the end she’ll always come clean.
- Awkward Romantic – You’d think a girl as obsessed with fairy tales as Lili is would have more knowledge of romance than she actually does, but this is very untrue. In this respect she is sheltered due to her overprotective older brother, whose high standards for potential boyfriends intimidate anyone willing to make an advance. Though Lili is grateful for his dedication and protection, she can’t help but admit that sometimes it grows tiring. What girl doesn’t dream of someone to come along just sweep her off her feet?
- Clever - Give her a moment to warm up to you and you'll find yourself a conversationalist who can respond quickly and thoughtfully. She can fire a joke back at you, she can sass when you leave her an opening, and if given an opportunity to poke fun at a friend, she will gladly take it if she feels comfortable enough to tease playfully.
- Unfussy - One might not have to worry about Lili being particularly picky about their tastes. Lili doesn't judge, nor does she complain about the hard work of others. She's content eating whatever brand of food and does not pay attention to prices, and as long as the colors look nice she doesn't really mind wearing any kind of clothing - which is one reason why gifts she might get from others (such as bows or ribbons) are worn with pride no matter how tacky they are.
- Loyal - Lili's loyalty is not something one can easily be rid of. Once her loyalty is given, you will have it forever. That said, though Lili has very many friends, her dedication is reserved only for a special few that she might come to care about on a level nearly equal to that of her brother. Anyone that manages to reach that level, however, has earned a friend for life, though thick and thin, through all things.
- Optimistic – In every sense of the word. She firmly believes in happy endings and though she understands that things don’t always go to plan, she believes that in the end life will always turn out for the better for those that have faith in it. She has unshakable faith in the good of the people in her life and always believes the better parts will shine through. Anything that conflicts with this belief is difficult for her to deal with.
- Protective - She is a Zwingli, and as such there is a part of her, dormant and deep inside her, that one can set off if one dares to endanger anyone she loves. Her meek, casual, and calm exterior belies this quality, making any such reaction entirely unexpected to anyone that underestimates her. But be aware that Lili is capable of fearlessness and strength in the face of something that may threaten her brother, or likewise anyone else she cares enough for.

(( This is a roleplay post taken from Tomorrow Never Dies. This post was written in a thread with Northern Ireland. uvu ))
“Praise th’ Lord, Miss Lili fer ye sweet mindfulness n’ mercy. Fear was in th’ hart wen’ I thought that such deeds wold go unforgiven." To further his act, Donald pat his chest, over his heart twice before he bowed ever so slightly. “But truly I am honored te ‘ve been able te brighten ye day. Not many does th’ sun shine upon London, but when it does I make sure te spread its good news.” Donald spoke as if he were reciting a passage from a play. In fact, their entire conversation, or at least his half of it, seemed to mimic a stage actor. Not that she was complaining or anything, his way of speaking thoroughly amused her.
Especially interesting was how his hands moved and flowed with everything he said. Each gesture carried with it the same amount of emotion and feeling as every word he spoke. They moved as if directing onlookers to continue paying attention. So animated was he that she was almost distracted from his speaking. Luckily, his beautifully green eyes and bright hair managed to distract her right back, handsome as they were.
“You’re very lucky indeed!” Lili’s expression faked sternness, eyes narrowed as if attempting to punish him simply with a look. “If I were in a worse mood I’d have tossed you out myself!”
And with that, she took his hand, quietly admiring the good-natured strength with which he held it. For someone who initially struck her as a man simply stepping in for a quick flirt, he was incredibly social. She enjoyed it and savored the contact. The stunning emerald in his eyes caught her attention again as he lift her hand up, almost as if he were about to kiss it; Lili briefly held her breath as he spoke.
“Ah, an artist’s hand, is tha’ right? Ye must have many talents.”
“Talents? Oh no—I wouldn’t call them talents!" Lili’s laugh wavered nervously and she pulled her hand back. She didn’t expect him to examine her hand! The healed wounds were mostly invisible. He couldn’t color scheme a bouquet to save his life, but his attention to detail was otherwise astounding. “Hobbies. I embroider and sew in my free time.” Lili admitted, cheeks tinting pink. “Sometimes here, on slow days.”
Or books. Books too. But he probably noticed that right when he walked in, as she struggled to hide her beloved book out of sight.
The awkwardness she felt was almost immediately gone when he regained his casual composure, his body relaxing and leaning on the counter, quiet. It was a dramatic change from his demeanor when entering the store, peacefully joking back and forth as if she’d known him for ages. What compliment he could give her regarding her social nature she could easily give back. His cheerful mood was contagious!
“What would ye say is yer favorite flower or arrangement? Girls are—ah—tricky with flowers n’ I want te know the right ones te give becaus’ I want these te be special."
Her head tilted ever so slightly, almost confused by his question. It wasn’t hard to understand, but she still had to question it. “Now what would you ask that? My favorite wouldn’t be the same as everyone else’s.” But she would humor him - or attempt to, at least.
But still, her favorite flower? That was easier than trying to tell him a specific arrangement, but like each arrangement had its own beauty she could say the same thing about flowers. Difficult choice indeed. She couldn’t simply point it out with a finger, no. Her favorite needed to be acknowledged directly. She stood up and cheerfully made her way across the store to the opposite wall, close to the window. Hidden in the corner were a pair of large white pots, grapevines painted across the outside, and within the pots stood tall plants topped with large, orange flowers.
“Lilium bulbiferum.” Lili recited. “That’s the scientific name—have you noticed a pattern, yet?” Her love of the flowers would either be endearing or creepy, but she couldn’t deny what she liked. “My old home has many beautiful flowers. I like this one, but I’m also fond of the alpine rose.”
She lightly brushed the fiery petals of one of the orange lilies, then pushed the pots closer. The flowers had leaned forward into the window, reaching out for the light of the sun whose rays they mimicked. “I’m not sure if men usually have favorite flowers, but do you?" Lili asked, turning back to him curiously.
