Matthew breathed a sigh of relief as he counted the float for the third time that night, four-hundred to the tee. That was exactly what it was supposed to be. Thank god. Matthew bumped the drawer shut with his hip and rolled his shoulders trying to relax them. Today had been…and okay day to say the least. His customers coming through the line today had been particularly ruthless. One woman kept picking up non-sale items and demanding discounts, while another had brought all six of her toddler aged children who proceeded to scream and throw tantrums in his checkout line. He gave them all suckers to shut them up, but that wasn’t even the beginning. If it wasn’t the literal six year olds at his till it was the perpetual metaphorical one who thought hitting on customers in his line was a good idea.
"Hey there ladies~ Didja know this is my little bro? Yeah, I'm his hero. Taught him everything he knows. I still take care of him even." Matthew mocked his voice under his breath. What a sack of southern drawled bullshit. He was the one who needed Matthew. He’d probably trip over his own untied shoes in the morning without him. And speaking of mornings he’d taken all the hot water today without even asking if he needed to shower too. So Matthew had been left to take and icy shower.
Matthew screamed internally as he wiped down his register.
Plus to top it all off he had statistics homework, two chapters of psych to read, and a response to write when he got home. It wasn't too much to do, but still it was incredibly stressful. With Al at the store he had no quiet time anymore, and that had been something he cherished more than he thought. At least the weekends were still his, and now it was only thing that was.
He let out another sigh, and walked away rubbing at his temples to help soothe the anxiety attack he felt coming. It took him a few moments to get out of the store after stowing away his vest and name tag in his locker. He'd go out to the car, start on his homework and then go home once he finished it. It was a bit odd doing his homework there, but otherwise it wouldn't get done.
So with those fleeting thoughts Matthew sauntered out to his car reached into his pocket and found...nothing. He froze, oh no. He didn't did he? In a flurry of motion Matthew shoved his hands into his front and back pockets, and then into his red hoodie once again for good measure. Still he remained empty handed any car key less and it was then that Matthew, just to make sure, peeked inside of his Station Wagon.
“Goddammit!” Sure enough this morning the Canadian had left them still jammed in the ignition. “Whyyyy?”
He slammed his forehead against the the drivers side door several times, before turning around and letting out a despairing groan. He slid down the side of the car landing with a muffled thump and dropping his head in his arms scolding himself.
“How are you going to do your homework now Matt? You're so stupid. Locking yourself out. Really?” [[Credit to Spider for giving me the things Alfred said. xD ]]

Lars had just finished cleaning up the garden center for the night and was unlocking his bike from the bike rack when he heard a voice, he frowned when the voice was rather familiar to him and it sounded like the person was talking to themselves. Placing the bike lock inside his backpack he walked his bike over towards the parking lot. Noticing the familiar station wagon he walked around towards the driver's side.
Seeing Matthew sitting on the pavement her frowned wondering why Matthew was still here or even better why Matthew was just sitting there on the ground talking to himself. Kicking the kickstand down and letting his bike rest on his he finally spoke up " Matthew? What are you doing? " He hoped he didn't startle Matthew too much since he didn't make too much noise.
He studied his friend silently, he knew that there was something wrong as he knew his friend didn't get upset too easy, he glanced inside the vehicle and saw what the problem was. He saw the keys in the ignition and had a feeling he knew what was wrong. " Do you want to talk about it Matt? Your welcome to come home with me if you need place to stay "

“Great job doofus.”
Matthew laced his fingers through the flaxen waves and dropped them on his shoulder with huff of frustration. What was he going to do? Alfred had probably already made his way home on his motorcycle, not that he would willingly ride that death trap, but his keys did have a copy of the station wagon's keys on them. Matthew really wasn't about to ask him to come all the way back up here again. Maybe he'd walk home? Or sleep on the pavement until tomorrow morning? What about his work though? That response was due tomorrow at midnight, and with only for hours to do it all would it all get done in time? Would he get an A at that? It was practically improbable!
Matthew mourned the loss of his A average in Psych. As he did so, it was clear he hadn't noticed his co-worker rounding the front side of the vehicle nor the bike he had rolled halfway down the parking lot simple to investigate the mystery that was Matthew. So when the man above him spoke to the pitiful heap of bones on the asphault Matthew jumped right out of his skin.
“F—fuck!” Matthew's head shot up out of his crossed arms with a rather alarmed expression at the sudden, not so sudden intrusion. A tall looming figure stood beside him, his posture cautious and tentitive. Matthew had a wild thought that for a second he was about to be mugged, but then upon closer inspection he realized that he was being rather ridculous. It was actually another employee on the closing shift. Lars.
Well this certainly looked awkward.
“It's not what it looks like?” Matthew threw the comment out there, to at least say something.
'Oh god. He probably thinks I'm a bum living out of my car or something.' Matthew panicked and pulled himself up, shoulders stiff and back ramrod straight. Could tonight get any worse? Lars questioned him again apparently picking up on the tension in the atmosphere, and then offered Matt a place to stay. Matthew almost died on the spot in embrassment, red crawling across his cheeks.
“Oh no Lars, it's not anything really.” Matthew wave his hands in front of his face and then back to his car. “I just locked myself out, it's no problem really man. It happens all the time!I'll just walk ten miles home, er. Or break my window open...Or just er. Sleep on my roof?” Matthew let out the breath he didn't know he was holding with a sigh.
None of that reallly sounded convincing. Dammit.
Matthew leaned up against the car, and let his one of his hands drop to his side, giving Lars a appreciative gaze. “Today's just been a pretty shitty day I guess. You know what I mean, bad customers and all? ” The other hand nervously twisted through his hair and finally settled for rubbing the back of his neck. He hated asking people for things.
“And being locked out of my car was just the icing on the cake. So if it's not too much trouble?”
Matthew cursed his luck.

Lars frowned to himself, he hadn't meant to startle Matthew but then again he had to admit he should have made a little noise when he approached the other. But back to the problem at hand, he would rather not have anything happen to his friend and co-worker should he have just left him there. " If it was a problem Matthew I would not have offered " He didn't live too far away just a few blocks so it wouldn't take them too long to get back to his place.
" If you need a place to stay for the night your welcome to my couch " he didn't often offer his home to other people but he liked Matthew so it was alright. He kicked his bike's kickstand and held onto the handle bars. " Come shall we go? " He slowly started to walk across the parking lot so that Matthew could keep up with him since he did walk rather fast.
It was rather good that he didn't live to far away since he was sure that Matthew didn't want to walk to far, he was sure Matthew had an rough day from what he had seen of the other dealing with the new security guard and some rather annoying customers when he had walked by when he had gone on break.
